My first meme
Theresa, AKA Keyboard Biologist, has challenged her readers to step up and do this one, instead of her tagging them. So I'm delurking in her blog comments, and posting this here. The subject is to tell your readers 6 weird things about yourself.
I'm going to follow along with her adaptation of the rules, and instead of picking people to do this next, I'll invite anyone reading to post to their blogs, and leave a comment here saying you've done it. (OK, I confess. I'm not sure I know 6 people who have blogs. At least not 6 I'd feel comfortable sending this to.)
So here goes.
1) My second toes are longer than my great toes. I know, this is common. But mine are nearly 1/2 inch longer. When I buy running shoes, they check for the position of the end of my great toe. I have to point out to them that when I have shoes that are the 'right' length, my second toes are smashed up against the front of the shoe.
2) I won't use an electric can opener. I'm reasonably intelligent, and have learned how to use some pretty complex equipment. But electric can openers have me defeated. People have shown me how to use them, and it looks pretty simple. But I've had so many bad experiences, I just don't want to. Last time I used one I ended up cleaning beet juice off the counter. And the cabinet doors, both above and below the counter. And the walls, and floor. And I think there was even some on the ceiling.
3) I'm fascinated by smells. I even enjoy some 'bad' smells, although I don't try to have them in my environment. About the only odors I really can't stand and will try to avoid are ammonia and rotting flesh. (In a pathology rotation in medical school, in case you are wondering.)
4) My right ear is pointy. I remember reading somewhere that this is called a 'Darwin's tubercle', and it's genetically related to the points on dogs and cats ears.
5) I love hot sauce, and will put it on about any food that will tolerate it. When I'm stressed, I eat even more.
6) I have a weakness for really trashy magazines, especially when I'm travelling. If I'm staying in a motel for more than one night, I'll stock up on 'Star', 'Us Weekly', and a couple of others. Hubby teases me about it, and I don't read them where anyone I know will catch me. But get me out of town and bored, and I'm on them.
So there ya are. If you want to join the fun, leave a note in the comments, and I'll look you up.
Cooking with intention teaser:
I'll post details and link to the recipe tomorrow.
Christmas knitting update. I've officially decided I won't get the scarves done by Christmas. So.......one of the seaman's scarves will go instead to the interim minister at my church, who is leaving us as of the end of the year. Another one will go to our office manager. I'm progressing on the purple and green entrelac scarf. But the yarn isn't as nice as I first thought. It's some of my very early handspun, when I tended to overspin everything, so it's got some really tightly wound scratchy patches. It looks really nice, though. If it feels too prickly when I'm done, it'll probably end up being mine. I'll keep working on scarves, and maybe the nurses will get them for Valentine's Day.
Hee hee! You've made me feel more normal. My toes are similar to yours although perhaps not quite as extreme, it looks that way as they are all long and thin.
thanks!
